Description

Job Information:
Some information about Jack, the client:
Jack is 19. He is very social and loves lawnmowers, firefighters & their gear, and lawn care equipment. He enjoys going for rides, taking a walk, playing baseball in the backyard, having a catch inside, watching YouTube videos.
He has special needs- he has a genetic syndrome that results in a variety of challenges.
He is intellectually disabled and has some physical challenges such as decreased strength and decreased balance. He walks independently.
He needs support when engaging with others as far as personal space and appropriate interactions.
He communicates with some words, word approximations, gestures, and (less frequently) a communication app on his ipad.
He would need assistance with the bathroom if he has a BM in terms of wiping. He sits on the toilet to urinate and may need a reminder to lean forward.
He has some triggers that sometimes result in a behavior that usually falls into the following categories: SIB (he bites his own hand), brief aggression, dropping to the floor. These are often manageable and brief. We have several ways of managing this that we would go over and model for you.

Job requirements:
Your work with Jack would fall under the following areas:
(1) IN COMMUNITY: activities out in the Watertown area community (short grocery trip, walk at the park, get a doughnut) in which he is engaged with you and his community in meaningful ways while practicing/reinforcing daily living skills. An outing might consist of - a short trip to the supermarket, finding 3-5 items, paying, walking safely through the parking lot, getting into the car safely, returning home, & putting the items away.
(2) AT HOME: light meal prep support with eating & cleaning up, monitor his nap time with a baby monitor, leisure activities (having a catch), practice/support with life skills (light chores, getting dressed, hygiene). An at home activity might consist of - making toast & putting butter on it, then cleaning up appropriately.
Communication: This is a skill focus area. We want to encourage Jack to use words, word approximations, or his iPad to communicate as effectively as possible. He favors speaking over the ipad and we are taking his lead with this, so we do not push the use of the ipad. He is capable of using 1-3 words to express his needs, but he will often revert gesturing only (either physically or verbally) without the use of a word. We are pushing his use of at least 1-3 words he is capable of speaking.
Driving: Going out in the community would require Jack to be a passenger in your car. For Jack’s safety, engaging the child safety lock on his door would be necessary.
Hours/schedule: We estimate that the days/hours would be about 2-3 hours a day and 2 -3 times a week.

GT Independence:
This is the company you would do paid training with as part of the hiring process.
Once hired, you would use the GT app to clock in and out to get paid.
The pay ranges from $30-35 per hour.
