Respite Worker needed for Teen

Description

We are looking for a compassionate, patient, dependable adult caregiver to provide part-time respite and companionship for our 16-year-old daughter.

She is a beautiful, smart, energetic teenager with autism who is non-speaking and communicates using an AAC device, gestures, and other forms of communication. She has a wonderful personality, knows what she likes, and enjoys watching Tom & Jerry, drawing, swimming, sensory activities, and going on community outings.

She requires one-on-one supervision and support with daily living activities, communication, and emotional regulation. She can sometimes become overwhelmed, particularly during transitions or unfamiliar situations, and may display challenging behaviors. She also has a history of wandering, so safety awareness and attentive supervision are extremely important.

We are looking for someone who can:

- Build a trusting, positive relationship with our daughter
- Engage her in meaningful recreational and leisure activities beyond screen time.
- Support her communication using her AAC device.
- Assist with daily routines and personal care as needed.
- Help her practice independence and participate in community outings.
- Recognize signs of frustration or sensory overload and respond calmly.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.

Experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities is preferred. However, we also value someone who is willing to learn, follows guidance, communicates openly with our family, and respects her individuality.

This is an ongoing part-time opportunity, with scheduling to be discussed.

Our goal is not simply to find someone to supervise our daughter, but someone who will encourage her independence, celebrate her progress, and help her enjoy meaningful experiences while providing our family with dependable respite support.
