NH Respite Services

NH Lifespan Respite logo

Mission: To recruit and train a pool of qualified respite care providers which NH caregivers can easily access to meet the needs of those they care for, thereby enhancing the quality of life for individuals of all ages.

Vision: All caregivers in NH will be able to access high quality, affordable and culturally appropriate respite, that will be delivered according to the caregivers’ and families’ needs, timelines and special circumstance.

New Hampshire Respite Providers and Companions have access to Free Training Opportunities:

NH Lifespan Respite Provider Certification:

The NH Lifespan Respite Coalition currently supports workers in becoming Certified Lifespan Respite Providers through a no-cost online learning opportunity. A Certified Lifespan Respite Provider has completed a series of competencies through a web based independent study curriculum on Relias™ Learning. Each competency contains up to five courses. After all core competencies are successfully completed, providers will receive a NH Lifespan Respite Provider Certification. The certification demonstrates a standard level of knowledge to provide respite care for individuals of all ages and those with special health care needs.

This training includes a core curriculum that has been implemented statewide by NH Area Agencies for Direct Support Professionals and Personal Care Attendants to meet the requirements of NH’s He-M 506 rules. The course work includes, but is not limited to: patient rights and responsibilities, cultural diversity, infection control, HIPAA Regulations and documentation, and a variety of training on specific health conditions.

Respite Education & Support Tools (REST) Training:

Another training option the Coalition has available is Respite Education & Support Tools (REST) training. REST is a nationally recognized in-person training, delivered in one 8-hour session or two 4-hour sessions by trainers who have received specialized education to present this material. Respite Providers will learn methods and tools to help both the care recipient and the caregiver who needs respite. Sessions involve traditional teaching, storytelling, and interpersonal activities. This option requires a group of respite providers at the same time to be most effective.
