Position: Home Health Aide (Part-Time)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 4 hours per day
Location: Private home
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Home Health Aide to provide essential in-home support for an elderly couple: an 83-year-old woman with dementia and an 84-year-old man managing atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) and history of prostate cancer. The aide will assist with daily living activities, household management, meal preparation, shopping, and provide companionship to ensure the couple’s safety, comfort, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care & Supervision
Assist with daily personal care such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and maintaining personal hygiene for the clients as needed.(Not necessary at this time, but it may be necessary in the future.)
Provide supervision and gentle reminders, particularly for the client with dementia, to ensure safety and orientation. Help keep track of hearing aids that have been lost several times.
Offer medication reminders (no medication administration) and monitor for changes in health or behavior, reporting concerns to family or healthcare professionals.
Meal Preparation & Nutrition
Plan and prepare nutritious meals tailored to any dietary restrictions or special needs (e.g., heart-healthy or easy-to-eat foods), including cleanup of kitchen and dishes after meals.
Assist with feeding if necessary and ensure adequate hydration.
Household Management
Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment (e.g., dusting, vacuuming, mopping, laundry, changing linens, taking out garbage).
Ensure common areas, bathrooms, and kitchen are tidy and sanitary.
Errands & Shopping
Shop for groceries and household supplies as needed.
Run occasional errands such as pharmacy pick-ups or accompanying clients to medical appointments if required.
Companionship & Engagement
Provide friendly companionship, engage clients in conversation, and participate in simple activities to promote emotional well-being and reduce feelings of isolation.
Encourage participation in light exercise or activities as appropriate to each client’s ability.
Health Monitoring
Observe and document any changes in clients’ physical or mental condition, including appetite, mood, and mobility.
Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure) if trained and requested by supervising healthcare providers.
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Home Health Aide or in a similar caregiving role preferred.
Ability to understand and follow instructions from healthcare providers and family members.
Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR is an asset.
Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy for seniors with cognitive and physical health challenges.
Physical ability to assist with mobility, transfers, and light housekeeping tasks.
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle for errands (if required).
Must pass background checks and provide references.
Schedule & Compensation
Hours: 4 hours per day, 5 days a week (Monday–Friday).
Compensation: Based on experience and qualifications.
