Description
We seek a compassionate and dedicated Respite Provider to provide supportive and enriching care for children ages 5-22 with intellectual, developmental and other disabilities, helping them stay safe, active, and comfortable at home. You will work 1:1 with Individuals and their families, supporting their progress both at home and in the community.
Location: On-site in family home. Positions are currently available in the following Massachusetts communities:
Concord
Dracut
Ipswich
Lawrence
Lowell
Methuen
Peabody
Salisbury
Schedule: 3-6 hours weekly based upon schedule agreed upon with family and supervisor.
Compensation: This is a non-exempt, per diem position. The hourly rate is $21.00. You will be a union member to SEIU Local 509.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide a safe and positive environment where consumers can explore new pastimes and are offered opportunities for growth and develop social skills.
Implement activities in the community, promoting an atmosphere of acceptance where consumers are welcomed and present a positive image to the greater community.
Encourage and promote self-advocacy skills.
Interact with families in a profession, courteous manner.
Act as a liaison between families and program staff. Educate families around program and community resources. Ensure requests for supports, respite agreements and/or other miscellaneous paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner.
Encourage age-appropriate, normalizing behavior in a sensitive and caring manner through modeling, redirection and conversation.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
At least 2 years’ experience working with persons with disabilities preferred.
Specific clinical skills in specialized areas (hearing, visually, physically impaired, behavior management, medical needs, crisis intervention etc.) a plus.
Candidates must be able to read, write, and comprehend English to accurately follow support plans, document services provided, and communicate effectively with individuals, families, staff and healthcare professionals.
Minimum of one year of driving experience and a valid driver’s license in good standing
