Job description:
Seeking a compassionate, reliable, Behavior Technician/ Skills Trainer to provide one-on-one care for a non-verbal young adult client with developmental disabilities. The role is located in Northborough.
Special Ed / Behavior Tech experience highly preferred
Provide hands-on assistance with daily living skills, challenging behavior management, and engaging sensory and developmental activities in a home and community setting.
Pay rate: ~$30/hour based on experience.
Hours: Flexible weekday daytime hours and some weekend and evenings.
Requirements
· Ability to work in the United States required
· Must have a cell phone
· Must have reliable transportation
· CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
· Commitment to training and continuous program improvements
· Ability to multi-task and lift weight (over 130 lbs)
Qualifications
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or behavioral needs preferred, but training will be provided for the right candidate
• Patience, consistency with routine, and a genuine desire to help individuals with special needs thrive
• Ability to physically lift weight, heavy items ~(130 lbs)
Key Responsibilities
• Follow existing ISP, and behavior support plan.
• Work on skills training, and community integration activities.
• Work on maintaining an active routine including walking, and variety of exercises.
• Provide structure and routine to promote predictability and reduce anxiety
• Assist in self-feeding and other self-help skills and provide direct personal care, including toileting (individual is not toilet trained).
• Implement sensory-based activities tailored to the client’s sensory needs
• Support behavioral needs, including managing challenges like flopping, grabbing, and emotional regulation in all settings
• Keep environment safe – individual has PICA and tends to mouth inappropriate items
• Monitor for safety and apply positive behavior support strategies in all settings
• Encourage/practice functional communication using alternative methods (e.g., visuals, modified picture exchange communication system (PECS), specific iPad apps)
• Assist with transitions between activities and outings
• Maintain a calm, engaging, and positive demeanor throughout all interactions.
Work Environment:
• Home-based setting with community outings and activities (i.e. walk at local park/gym, restaurants, mall, library).
• Must be comfortable working with a non-verbal individual who may display challenging behaviors
• Support provided with guidance from the parent for ongoing communication regarding goals and preferences
