Job Description:

Shared Living is an arrangement available to qualified adults that is contracted, paid monthly, and managed by Living Independently Forever, Inc. (LIFE) based in Plymouth, MA.

Pay:

Monthly Stipend amount of $5,416 PLUS an additional $250 per month for a gas allowance! This stipend is TAX FREE for most individuals, please check with your tax professional first.

Overview:

We are currently seeking a positive, energetic, outgoing, and compassionate Shared Living Provider (individual or couple) to support a young adult man with visual and social disabilities in their home. This opportunity is located in Plymouth.

The position requires the Shared Living Provider to live with this individual. The provider will receive a private bedroom, private bathroom, walk-in closet, private garage, and utilities included, in addition to an attractive monthly stipend. This is a year-round full-time position.

We are looking for someone who is experienced or willing to learn about intellectual disabilities and enjoys teaching, prompting, coaching, and modeling daily living, health, nutrition, and social skills. Someone who values supporting independence by doing things with, not for, the individual.

In This Crucial Role, You Will:

· Support this young man to live a full, meaningful, and independent life by encouraging his interests and sharing appropriate activities together.

· Model and teach daily living skills, organization, healthy routines, and social engagement in a supportive, strengths-based manner.

· Maintain a clean, organized living environment collaboratively, while teaching household management skills.

· Assist him in Braille-labeling key household items to support organization, orientation, and independence.

· Assist with budgeting and financial tracking

· Help him establish and follow consistent daily routines and a structured weekly schedule that includes appointments, fitness, recreation, nutrition, social activities, household chores, and personal organization.

· Work with him to create weekly meal planning, grocery shopping, and cook with him as a shared activity, emphasizing healthy food choices and independence.

· Provide transportation to appointments and scheduled activities, including airport transportation and in-airport support when he travels (he independently uses Uber for some recreational outings). A stipend will be provided for gas.

· Support him with laundry (minimal assistance), folding clothes, and expanding his responsibilities for household chores using coaching, prompting, and organization tools.

· Walk daily with him and support additional exercise, including attending his weekly personal training session to carry over skills at home.

· Prompt and coach higher-level personal hygiene and personal appearance skills to increase independence and self-awareness.

· Support medication management with the goal of near-term independence.

· Observe and support a computer-based weekly employment coaching session. This is a remote, self-paced computer programming course. Also, prompt follow-through on assigned coursework

· Support him on site at Program social activities (if required by LIFE) and Special Olympics in ways that maximize independence while promoting meaningful inclusion.

· Collaborate with Compass staff to ensure consistent behavioral and social strategies.

· Encourage and coach him in planning social activities, especially on weekends, including following up on invitations and solidifying plans.

· Support him in building friendships, with a long-term goal of developing a small circle of consistent peers.

Administrative:

· Communicate regularly and professionally with his family regarding his social, emotional, and physical well-being.

· Provide a weekly short summary of activities including a current weight level.

· Maintain confidential files and complete documentation as required by DDS and LIFE.

· Use email, LIFE’s Learning Management System (Relias), and other basic computer programs as required.

A Little Information:

This is an adventurous young adult who enjoys independence and exploring activities on his own, particularly in the community. He benefits from consistent, encouraging coaching to strengthen organization, daily routines, health and nutrition, social connection, and follow-through goals. He thrives with someone who is talkative, engaging, organized, creative, and upbeat, and who can create a bright, positive, structured, and socially active home environment.

Interests in recreation, fitness, music, cooking, and technology are a great fit. Experience working with individuals who are visually impaired is helpful but not required.

Minimum Required Qualifications

· Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation

· Ability to pass DDS-required background checks, including DPPC, CORI, fingerprinting, and driving record review

· First Aid & CPR certification (training provided if needed)

· Strong communication, organization, and coaching skills

· Computer proficiency preferred

· College or associate degree a plus

· Honest, dependable, flexible, kind, and enthusiastic personality
