Description
I am looking for a fun, compassionate, and reliable caregiver for my 18-year-old daughter, Abbey, who has Down syndrome. Abbey is sweet, loves to laugh, and thrives with people who are playful, energetic, and engaging.
The right person will enjoy spending quality time with Abbey, coming up with creative activities, outings, and ways to keep her active and happy. Someone who naturally takes initiative and enjoys building a connection with the person they support would be a great fit.
We are a very easygoing family, and the primary focus of the role is spending time with Abbey and building a friendship while also enforcing structure and independence.
Taking initiative, being comfortable in our home, making yourself a part of our family and providing a little extra help around the house would be appreciated as well.
Responsibilities may include:
• Spending time with Abbey and planning fun activities, games, or outings
• Encouraging independence and positive engagement
• Occasional help with simple household tasks (for example: preparing dinner with Abbey, picking up play areas)
• Running occasional errands such as doctor’s appointments or shopping
• Maintaining good judgment with safety and everyday common sense
• Accompany family on outings to provide additional help and support, as needed
• Personal hygiene support (must be comfortable with toileting and personal hygiene routines and assistance in shower)
Schedule:
• During the school year:
o Monday–Friday starting at 2:30 PM (flexible end time)
o Weekends: flexible, any availability welcome
• Summer / when school is out:
o Opportunity for daytime support hours
o (If daytime hours are not available for you, that is completely fine.)
Pay:
• $28.00 per hour (on the books, funding through DDS)
Ideal candidate:
• Patient, kind, and upbeat
• Playful and energetic
• Takes initiative to create activities and keep Abbey engaged
• Comfortable helping with occasional errands or light household tasks
• Passionate about supporting individuals with disabilities
