Description

I am seeking a loving and dedicated Personal Care Assistant to join the team providing essential support for my son who is a 21-year-old brain injury survivor. Aidan was approved for a total of 69.5 hours per week by the Massachusetts PCA Program at the complex care rate of $23.65. This position is in Winchester MA – there are two commuter rail stops withing walking distance and a bus that runs regularly from the Alewife Redline Stop. Parking in our residential neighborhood is also readily available. The daily schedule will be organized in collaboration with the 84 weekly CNA hours provided by the MA Brain Injury Waiver program and the PCA program. This position could include day hours (e.g., 7:30-2:30) and or evening/over night hours.
Our home has been remodeled with a wheelchair ramp, a fully accessible bathroom, ceiling Hoyer lift and we also have a portable battery-operated lift, a fully electric hospital bed, a tilt-in space shower chair, and a wheelchair accessible van. The client is confined to a wheelchair, is tube fed, and is bladder and bowel incontinent. Despite his injuries and inability to speak, Aidan continues to be a sweet young man who makes friends wherever he goes.
Responsibilities Include:
• Utilizing a Hoyer lift to transfer between beds, wheelchair, and shower chair.
• Provide personal hygiene support including bathing, grooming, dressing, and ensuring comfort and dignity.
• Administer feeding and medication through g tube (training can be provided)
• Providing incontinence support for bladder and bowel. The client will use a condom catheter from roughly 2 pm overnight until 6/7 am.
• Coordinate schedule and care and general collaboration with CNAs and family
• Providing enrichment and stimulation to the patient
• Light housekeeping, laundry, etc.
• Driving our wheelchair van to take the patient to appointments or other activities
Qualifications:
• Speaks English
• Experience caregiving, demonstrating empathy and patience
• Ability to use PCA app to input hours
Preferred Qualifications:
• Willingness to be CORIed
