Teen
Description
Seeking a responsible respite provider for after school/early evening for our 12-year old son with special needs (ASD and intellectual disabilities). Hours and days would vary by week depending on activity schedule but generally will be around 3:30-6 on various week days.
Boy has very specific interests and will be asked to bring him out into community to pursue those interests, though we are always open to new ideas and activities.
Has limited verbal, but is generally able to communicate his needs. Is not toilet trained, so comfort with changing/toileting a plus. Can, and likely will at times, display aggressive and/or combative behavior, typically during transitions. Parents will help recommend strategies but provider should understand the challenges and be comfortable with them.
Have found he responds best to joyful confidence in his providers, he can sense when caregivers are nervous or tentative and responds negatively.
Currently pay privately but in the process of being approved for GT Independence so will likely look to transition at some point.
