Description
We are looking for an occasional companion/caregiver for our 14 year old daughter. She is an incredibly engaging and personable teenager who has a mild development delay, ASD and epilepsy. She is very independent in some areas of self-care but sometimes needs oversight and reminders to stay on task.
We are looking for someone who is able to be there with her and provide support when needed but to otherwise encourage independence and empower her to continue to develop necessary skills. Initially we would like to start with regular visits once a week to help build a relationship and then later progress to occasional support days as well as the occasional overnight stays.
There is an older teenager also at home who is completely independent and responsible. We have a sweet small dog and a tortoise.
In terms of characteristics and personality, patience and compassion as well as curiosity and interest in doing fun activities like reading, puzzles and crafts is important. A driver’s license is a necessity as overnight stays might require transportation to or from school (15 minutes). CPR/First Aid training is preferred as there is a diagnosis of epilepsy which is maintained but still can require a clear head and an understanding of how to care for someone experiencing a seizure. Overnight stays will require some light meal preparation as well as overseeing medication.
